Now, there is a substantial focus on building density. Richard Crenian confirms cities and builders have learned some powerful lessons. Focusing on better, more sustainable developments has had a major impact on local communities, property owners, city revenues and services, and real estate firms.

Cities across Western Canada rolled out some new plans, which will be put into place, concerning commercial real estate. These plans will benefit average everyday people and developers. After years of building and expanding, Edmonton officials have recognized the need to focus on infill plans. Not everyone in Edmonton is been pleased with the plans and the new building restrictions thus far. However, these rules could be changing if the mayor gets his way. Other Western Canadian cities like Calgary are also in similar situations. According to Richard Crenian, there is a growing trend across Western Canada, of re-evaluating infill plans. 

The Benefits

The city of Edmonton appears to be taking a new approach to their infill plans. The new plans suggest a strengthening of neighbourhoods and local communities. Tenants and owners of local retail strip malls will experience greater gains if there is more shopping traffic. According to Richard Crenian, this means that the number of residents will increase, stay in the city longer, and will contribute more to produce stronger local economy.
